A brief history…

ABOUT THE ASSOCIATION
The International Association for the Study of German Politics is the new organisation that has been created by a merger of the Association for the Study of German Politics and the US German Politics Association in order to form a new association that is unique in bringing together scholars from Europe and North America into a common collaborative academic network.

HISTORY
The Association for the Study of German Politics (ASGP) was established in 1974 to promote the study and teaching of German politics, economics and society, in the widest possible context, amongst new and established scholars within the United Kingdom and further afield. The newly established IASGP builds on the strong network established by the ASGP, and extends the focus of the academic network to a global scholarly grouping. The IASGP also encourages graduate students to take an active interest in the German speaking states of Europe through participation in events, workshops and conferences.

FOCUS
The focus of the IASGP is on German-speaking states, and not solely on Germany. To this end, specialists on the former GDR, Austria and Switzerland are active within the Association and add to its expertise. The IASGP has continued to grow in strength since its foundation and has attracted a large number of members and an active Graduate Network.

JOURNAL
German Politics is the journal of the International Association for the Study of German Politics (IASGP).

The journal is an international forum for academic debate and political analysis on Germany, its changing role in European and world affairs, and its internal structures including political economy, constitutional law and social analysis. It engages with themes that connect Germany comparatively with other states – the challenges of globalisation, changes in international relations, and the widening and deepening of the European Union. It also links work on Germany to wider debates and issues in comparative politics, public policy, political behaviour, and political theory.

German Politics is published four times a year by Routledge. The editors welcome submissions from scholars of German political economy, law and society as well as on issues related to German and comparative politics.German Politics is available at reduced rates to both full and postgraduate members of the IASGP as part of their membership subscriptions.
